Family Social Night

What’s the theme?
Surprise build competition!

  • Each family (or individual, if you’ve got the night to yourself) is requested to bring along about 100 LEGO bricks (elements), on the night.
  • Families will work as a team.
  • Teams will be given a number of build challenges on the night.
  • The particular theme(s) of the builds will be revealed as a surprise on the night.
  • Prizes will be up for grabs for the winning team(s).

We had a great turn out for this month’s social night. Along with the surprise build competition, there were a few other “show and tells” for the night.

Magnus and Beanie tell some stories

Committee members Magnus and Steven (a.k.a. Beanie) gave everyone an update on their recent trip to Facebook HQ in San Francisco. Magnus and Beanie were a part of a small group of about 20 LEGO enthusiasts from around the world that were recognised has having a positive presence in the AFOL community on the Internet.

Another mini show and tell for the evening was given by club members Carlo and Penny, who had recently been on holiday and visited LEGOLAND Florida and the LEGO Store. Carlo and Penny shared their experience with having customised LEGO mosaic portraits made of themselves.

Another special feature show and tell for the night was given by club member Chris, who specialises in advance LEGO Technic crane design and building. Chris brought along one of his fully motorised cranes for people to have a play with.

Lastly, the club’s Secretary Ben, gave an update on the completely rebuild BrisBricks website that just been released. The new BrisBricks has a clean new look that’s great for viewing on all devices. The new club website has been re-structured to help you find all the information you’re after much faster.

The Surprise Build Competition

The main theme of the night was the surprise build competition. The first challenge was to build some sort of LEGO animal. Simple as that. No further rules. Everyone got building and came up with some really colourful and imaginative animals. Here’s a few of the builds from the night.

The second challenged involved building some “form of transport”. There was not as much time allocated for this build challenge, but that didn’t stop the careful creation of a number of interesting contraptions. Here’s a few of the modes of transport the builders came up with.

I think it’s safe to say everyone had a great time building LEGO, chatting LEGO and foraging through LEGO to finish the night.
