Pop-culture mania!

Once a year, in the September school holiday, Oz Comic-Con comes to Brisbane. In the weekend 21-22 September thousands of dressed-up characters came to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre to celebrate anything pop-culture.

As in previous years, BrisBricks provided both LEGO displays and a LEGO play area to the event. This year we brought something special – a huge model of Hogwarts (called Blockwarts), which caused huge crowds throughout the weekend the event ran.

Sitting on 96 standard LEGO baseplates, this Harry Potter display is among the largest in the world and feature more than 50 scenes from the books and movies.

In addition to the Hogwarts castle, BrisBricks also brought two real size swords built in LEGO and a replica of Thor’s hammer. These were very popular amongst both cosplayers and kids!

The play area saw many creative builds over the two days, including this raptor using a brick separator as tail.

But wait, there is more…

On Saturday 21 September was also the day of the inaugural DC Batman Run Australia, which is a 5km fun run/walk with Cancer Council Queensland as their designated primary charity this year.

The start line for the event was in front of the State Law Building, which due it its architecture, unofficially is called the Batman building or Gotham Tower.

BrisBricks was also here with a large model of the State Law Building on display.

No Batman building without a Batman.  Batman responds to the bat-signal on the roof being turned on by Police commissioner Gordon.

There was a lot of interest in the model from those attending the event.
